Former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng ‘dreams’ of a move to Manchester United, according to reports. Boateng is currently a free agent having left Bayern at the end of his contract. United could be in the market for another centre-back this summer.
United have already agreed a deal to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
The Red Devils have agreed a £43million fee to sign the former World Cup winner.
Varane is likely to become the regular partner at the back for club captain Harry Maguire.
United also have Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly available to play in the centre of defence.
There is no mention of whether United would be interested in signing the former Germany international.
Boateng, who turns 33 in September, made 39 appearances for Bayern in all competitions last season, proving he still has the ability to compete at the highest level.
CalcioMercato says Boateng has held talks with Roma over a move but Jose Mourinho’s side are not in the Champions League this term.
Signing another centre-back could be one of three new signings United make between now and the end of the window.

Kieran Trippier remains a target as Solskjaer looks to bring in competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United would also be in the market for a midfielder if contract rebel Paul Pogba leaves the club.
Speaking this week, Solskjaer admitted his squad is coming together nicely ahead of the new campaign.
“I think we’re developing. We’re progressing. Last season was a good season, apart from you don’t end up with a trophy,” Solskjaer said.
“I think everyone can see the progress. The season before, coming third was a great achievement after all the changes we’d made, tried to gel a new team in.
“Of course when Bruno came in that was a catalyst for winning more games and last season I felt we were so close to challenging for the top. And now the next step has to be there.
“We just have to improve, hopefully we can add some quality to the squad and we’re ready to start the season well, That’s the main thing – to start well.
“The first game, then the first little bulk of games, to give us a foundation to build on.”
