The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly focusing on their life as working royals and their three children, rather than dwell on their rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke of Sussex’s relationship with his older brother Prince William is reportedly still strained, with a royal expert claiming that the “depths of sadness” at their rift is still “incredibly deep”, and whilst they will always be brothers, their relationship remains strained.
Royal expert Nick Bullen told the podcast Royally Us: “I think the depths of the sadness and split between the two brothers is incredibly deep and incredibly raw, and I think it’s going to take a lot to get the two of them back together.
“I think at the moment, William and Kate are focusing on their work, focusing on the children, focusing on supporting the Queen.
“I don’t think they spend a lot of time thinking about the Harry and Meghan situation, Harry and Meghan have made their new life, they’re focused on that.
“Harry clearly doesn’t seem to be spending a lot of time thinking about his impact on the family in the UK, so I think that both, as Harry put it, are on their own paths.
“They’ll always be brothers, they’ll always want to have some level of contact, but I think it’s pretty distant at the moment from what I’m told.”
Relations between the two couples reportedly became strained in the autumn of 2018, when Prince Harry and Meghan decided to move away from Kensington Palace and later decided to establish their own Royal Foundation.
The couple announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping down from the Royal Family and would be relocating to California.
In March 2021, they conducted an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they discussed their difficult relationship with Buckingham Palace and members of the Royal Family.
Meghan spoke of her relationship with Kate, and claimed that it was in fact Kate who had made her cry in a dispute over flower girl dresses.
Other accusations included the Royal Family denying their son Archie a title, ignoring Meghan’s mental health, and an unnamed family member making a racist remark.
Whilst Prince Harry and Prince William have reunited on two occasions since the interview, reconciliatory talks behind the scenes have reportedly made little progress.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken on more responsibilities over the last year, and have been praised for their efforts to boost community spirits during the pandemic.
